Hoops 'A' comeback falls short in loss to Pro Guard - 23rd November 2007Hoops ‘A’ made a bright start in Friday’s league game but in the middle part of the game they struggled to maintain their form. Hoops 'B' win away at Kidderminster - 20th November 2007Hoops ’B’ team grind out a superb 73-78 victory away in Kidderminster, to continue their unbeaten start in the league against the Div 3 joint leaders Wyre Forest Flame. Match report posted. Friendly tournament - 16th November 2007This was another successful triangular tournament, with the Hoops squad virtually fielding 3 teams as four of the Staffs Police squad are now Hoops players. The Staffs Police team were the most successful on the night as they only lost 1 game, which was to the Hoops ‘A’ but then they soundly beat them in the return game. Most improved team from the last tournament was the Hoops ‘B’, although missing several key players they beat the deleted ‘A’ squad twice and had two very close games against the Police. The Hoops ‘A’ squad was more an invitational side led by a few regular faces but after the first victory they struggled to gel as a unit, although making a brave comeback against the ‘B’ team in the final game it was a difficult evening for them. Thanks for playing everyone, Mick. Hoops 'B' storm to 117-109 victory vs Bromsgrove Blaze - 5th November 2007We had a good game last night against Bromsgrove Blaze. The game was more or less won in the 1st quarter initially, but we took our foot off having had a big advantage. The scores speaks for itself and the team can only get better if everyone comes to training regularly so that we can work on the finer aspects. Every player scored and our defence was fine. I was impressed and happy with every player's efforts and contribution at both ends of the basketball court. Hopefully, Monday will result in another win. Rosebowl fixture announced - 29th October 2007Preliminary round - bye Hoops ‘A’ slump to defeat against Hawks - 23rd October 2007Hoops looked a very different team from the one who beat Warley in their previous match. Missing one of the top scorers, Hoops looked quite ordinary in their 55-49 loss. Full details given in the match report. Weston Hoops ‘B’ open Div 3 campaign with a 69-63 win - 21st October 2007In our first league game in the newly formed Div 3, the new Hoops 'B' squad opened their campaign with a well deserved 69-63 victory, away to another new team Balkan's 'B'. It wasn't pretty but the athleticism of our young players eventually got the better of a stronger more physical and experienced Balkans team. More details and full player stats in the match report. Weston Hoops ‘A’ win first of three 84-41 - 20th October 2007The 'A' team won the first of three games to be played in four days. It was a comfortable victory over Staffs Uni (Stafford site) at home on Friday evening. The students stuck to their task throughout the game but had no answer to the strength and experience of the Hoops squad. Club chairman Mick Renshaw even managed a cameo appearance coming of the bench to add his style of boxing out to the game. Match report here. Weston Hoops ‘A’ 73 v Warley 59 - 12th October 2007Hoops must have been saving themselves during the friendly loss to Wirral, as they storm to a win in their first league match of the season against Warley 73-59. The full match report is up on a thoroughly team performance. Weston Hoops ‘A’ 73 v Wirral 83 - 9th October 2007Weston: D.Weetman 29, J.Wardle 18, L.Hodge
12, E.Olaiya 8, A.Bakewell 4, R.Woodward 2 Weston Hoops' B' Vs Staffordshire University ‘B’(Stafford site) Won 72-37 - 9th October 2007Last night's game against a Staffs Uni team I initially thought might trouble us more. However it also gave us the opportunity to realize that there is still a bit of consistency to be derived from our point of view. We started very strongly and raced to a quick lead which coupled with a strong full-court press which caught the opposition out by surprise as well as forcing them to play catch up quite early in the 1st quarter in fact. We started with a rather quick line up made things much easier as they were prepared to sit in a zone defense which we used to our advantage as there were lots of fast-breaks. We took our 'feet off the gas' a little bit considering we had a big margin over the opposition but we need to remind ourselves that against stronger opposition, such games might/could easily have been lost. Defensively, we kept the opposition from scoring as regularly as they would have liked, however, where we often got caught out was on boxing out and rebounding duties. Communication was evident enough and i was happy with Lewis in particular as he often was the leader in terms of controlling things on court. I was very impressed with the overall play of all the players even down to the younger players who didn't do much wrong other than just a bit of a lack of experience.
